Appetizers : Fried Wontons with Chipotle Picadillo Filling
- 1 pound lean ground beef or pork
- 1/2 cup chopped green onion
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1 large clove garlic, minced
- 5 tablespoons TABASCO® brand Chipotle Pepper Sauce
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted and chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 (12-ounce) package wonton wraps (about 50)
- Oil for deep-frying
Cook meat in a large skillet over medium heat until it begins to brown, about 5 minutes, stirring to break meat into small pieces. Add green onion, raisins, and garlic and continue cooking until meat is done and onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in TABASCO® Chipotle Sauce, almonds, cinnamon, salt, cumin, and cloves, mixing well.
To make wontons, work with a few wraps at a time, keeping remainder covered so they don't dry out. Put a teaspoon of meat filling in the center of each wonton wrap. Moisten edges with a little water, then fold in half to form a triangle; press edges firmly together to seal. Bring tips at base of triangle together to form a circle, overlapping tips, and press together.
Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F. Fry wontons, a few at a time, until crisp and golden brown, about 1 to 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve hot. Makes 50.
Makes 50.
