Cooking in November:
Thanksgiving for Beginners.
Thanksgiving Day is a time to offer thanks, to get-together and to prepare and enjoy holiday meals. But, nothing is more terrifying to the novice cook than the thought of preparing a full-blown Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends.
There are so many dishes to make - turkey, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, vegetables and rolls, not to mention dessert. And then there is the pressure of Thanksgiving-past: Will your pumpkin pie be as good as Aunt Harriet's?
Relax. Armed with a few simple rules and Thanksgiving recipes from McIlhenny Company, you can take the terror out of Turkey Day.
Rule #1. Don't invite everyone you know to your first attempt at Thanksgiving dinner. There will be plenty of opportunities to do that when you've become a seasoned host. Try for a manageable group of 8 to 10 people.
Rule #2. Don't try to make everything yourself. After all, Thanksgiving is about sharing and everyone will feel happier if they can contribute to the festivities. So ask Aunt Harriet to bring her pumpkin pie.
Rule #3. Once you have handed out the Thanksgiving recipe assignments, make yourself a cooking and preparation plan for the week. Figure out when you will do your shopping and when you will be cooking. Don't try to do it all Wednesday night!
Rule #4. Make a complete shopping list of all the ingredients and tools you'll need, from the sweet potatoes and the cranberries to the meat thermometer for the bird. And don't forget to include the extended TABASCO® Family of Flavors, to bring all of your recipes to life.
To make your first time preparing Thanksgiving dinner memorable, McIlhenny Company has a few simple Thanksgiving recipes to help you celebrate with family and friends.
Next year everyone will be talking about your Maple-Glazed
Turkey with Spicy Cider Gravy, not Aunt Harriet's
pies. It's an irresistible dish seasoned with Dijon mustard,
apple cider, and a feisty amount of TABASCO
brand Habanero Sauce.
We
often forget that Mother Nature continues her bounty well
beyond summer and into the harvest months. One way to savor
this bounty is to prepare a mouthwatering soup filled with
a medley of harvest tastes.
Curried Butternut Bisque
is a simple blend of butter, onion, curry powder, butternut
squash, chicken broth, salt, half-and-half and
TABASCO brand Garlic Pepper Sauce.
It's a great way to start off the evening.
A new twist to a traditional favorite,
Spiced Sweet
Potatoes is flavored with brown sugar, orange marmalade,
salt and TABASCO
brand Habanero Pepper Sauce. Roasted
Root Vegetables is another excellent side dish
that combines parsnips, carrots, beets and onion with a generous
amount of TABASCO
brand Green Pepper Sauce for a delightful zing.
And Spicy
Cranberry Fruit Relish also complements a Thanksgiving
turkey and benefits from a splash of TABASCO
brand Pepper Sauce.
So remember to put a bottle of TABASCO
Sauce next to the salt and pepper. And most importantly...have
fun. Don't spend all your time in the kitchen. Sit down and
have a joyful Thanksgiving with your family and friends. You
deserve it!
