Sizzling Summer Salads
When the sweltering summer heat drains your appetite for a heavy meal, consider these super salad recipes, perfect for lunch or great as a light supper. Each uses TABASCO® brand Pepper Sauce, an easy way to add a burst of flavor to favorite summer dishes.
Take advantage of the seasonal abundance of fresh greens
and then add protein in the form of chicken or tuna to create
spicy, substantial salads. Mediterranean
Chicken Salad and Tuna
Cracked Wheat Salad are both healthy dishes perked
up with a few dashes of TABASCO® Sauce. Place
a spoonful of black olive and sundried tomato-studded chicken
salad on top of lettuce that has been tossed with balsamic
vinegar and olive oil, and serve for a delicious lunch. Tuna
Cracked Wheat Salad, also a Mediterranean-inspired
dish, features a zesty combination of tuna, salad vegetables,
wheat pilaf and TABASCO®. Top with Yogurt Dressing,
made from plain yogurt, fresh mint or dill and TABASCO®
Sauce. Serve with hot crusty French bread on the side.
Bountiful salad recipes full of a variety of fresh ingredients make perfect meals for summer entertaining. Easy to prepare and delicious to
eat, everyone will rave about Warm
Shrimp and Ham Salad Over Seasonal Greens. Chicory
and red leaf lettuces and other mixed greens (choose from
spinach, Belgian endive and arugula) make the base for a melange
of shrimp, ham, carrots, sweet peppers and onions. Top with
a delicious orange-herb dressing to tie the flavors together
and provide a tangy touch.
A delicious salad to serve before the main course is Avocado
and Grapefruit Salad with Poppy Seed Dressing,
a combination of avocado
and grapefruit sections topped with a sweet poppy seed dressing
that's spiked with TABASCO
brand Pepper Sauce.
Two more classics take on new life when splashed with TABASCO®
Sauce. Shrimp
Louis Salad and Spicy
Spinach Salad will be welcomed as light and refreshing
salads for the family.
Remember, in order to keep lettuce its freshest, wash it in cold water and then dry in a salad spinner or wrap it in a paper towel and gently pat to absorb moisture. Store greens in your refrigerator's salad crisper drawer or loosely wrapped in a paper towel. Don't store lettuce in a plastic bag; this creates moisture and will cause greens to go limp and brown more quickly.
So be sure to take advantage of summer's bounty - and create salads that will help make those steamy days seem just a little bit cooler.
