The selection of Kona On My Plate by the judges was unanimous. The book "has a keen sense of where it comes from," according to one judge, and is filled with a wide variety of recipes that pay particular attention to Hawaiian cuisine and culture. Adding to the proud tradition of community cookbooks, Kona On My Plate is a combination of delicious recipes, "beautiful artwork" and interesting quotes about Hawaii and its rich and storied culture from such famous authors as Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson and Jack London.

Featured recipes include Baked Spareribs with Mango Chutney Marinade, Keahole Lobster Torte, Orange Endive Salad with Lime Shrimp, Papaya Slaw, Macadamia Cream Pie, and Goat Cheese and Mau'i Onion Tart with Smoked Tomato Coulis.

Tastes of Jewish Tradition
The charming Tastes of Jewish Tradition focuses on the cuisine of Jewish holidays and expands to include “recipes” for holiday crafts and activities, celebrated stories of Jewish traditions, and prayers and blessings for the holiday table. Created by the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center volunteers, it arose, like the Center itself, from a need for Jewish community and cultural preservation in the Milwaukee area. As one judge stated, “It is a wealth of information about all the activities and traditions of Jewish celebrations that involve the entire family.”

The cookbook features a selection of recipes that includes Challah with a Twist, Fannie’s Fabulous Beet Borscht, Rosemary and Coarse Salt Focaccia, Moroccan Couscous, Puffy Noodle Kugel, Jewish Apple Cake, and Buttermilk Cinnamon Bars.
