TABASCO® Screen Savers

TABASCO® Screen Saver Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I’m having trouble getting the animated screen saver to download and install.

Complete instructions can be found on this page. (Note: the Windows versions are self-extracting archives, so you will not need WinZip.)

  2. Does the animated screen saver have sound?

Currently the only screen saver that has sound is Dance Hall. If you can’t hear any sound for this screen saver, press 1-9 to set the volume, or 0 to turn sound off. Any other key will quit this animated screen saver. If the sound skips, or is choppy, your computer may be suffering from a lack of memory. Free up some RAM by quitting applications.

Windows users: Some Windows machines, especially older versions of Windows and Windows NT, may perform erratically, especially those with less common third-party sound cards, or sound cards that have been incorrectly configured. Try locating your sound card manufacturer’s web site and downloading the latest version of your sound card’s driver, or re-installing the driver you have.

  3. I installed the animated screen saver, but it won’t launch; or when it does, the screen is black or the desktop doesn’t appear. Or, I get an "out of memory" error. What’s up?

In all likelihood you have a large monitor set to maximum (usually "millions", or 24-bit) color depth. Try setting your monitor to display 16-bit (or "thousands") colors. On the Macintosh, do this in your Monitors and Sound control panel. Under Windows, do this in the Display control panel. Another possibility is that you don’t have enough free RAM. Try quitting a few applications and see if it works then. If you have less than 6MB free at the time the animated screen saver launches, there is a good chance you need more memory.

  4. I have a Macintosh with another screen saver already installed. Do I need to disable my old screen saver to get this one to work?

In some cases, yes. Most screen savers should be managed by opening the System Control Panel or System Preferences. If this does not work, your old screensaver probably has it’s own control in either Control Panels or System Preferences.

  5. I love the screen saver, in fact so much so that I don’t get any work done. My boss has demanded that I delete it from my hard drive. How do I (sob) do that?

On windows, use the Add/Remove Software Control Panel. For Mac, use the Desktop & Screen Saver Pane of System Preferences to control-click (or right click with a two-button mouse) the screen saver you want to delete and select, "move to trash".

  6. I’ve read all these instructions and yet I still have an unresolved problem. Can someone help?
