TABASCO® Mardi Gras Animated Screen Saver Frequently Asked
Questions
- I'm having trouble getting the animated
screen saver to download and install.
Complete instructions can be found on this page. (Note: the Windows versions are self-extracting archives, so you will not need WinZip.)
- Does the animated screen saver have
sound?
There are two versions. One with sound and one without.
The version with sound has a police siren, dance squad and
marching band audio. Be patient to hear all three clips
because it is a long parade! The marching band is actually
a clip from The St. Augustin Marching 100 led by Edwin Hampton.
- My desktop shows behind the floats; is this a bug?
No, that's how it's supposed to work. (It's not really your
desktop, but a screenshot of your desktop at the time the
animated screen saver starts; any background tasks that
your computer executes will not be visible until the animated
screen saver quits.)
- Well, then is it really a screen saver?
Technically, no; but modern monitors do not suffer from "screen burn." While screen savers were originally designed to prevent images from being permanently burned into your monitor, they are now just supposed to be fun.
- I installed the animted screen saver,
but it won't launch; or when it does, the screen is black
or the desktop doesn't appear. Or, I get an "out of
memory" error. What's up?
In all likelihood you have a large monitor set to maximum (usually "millions", or 24-bit) color depth. Try setting your monitor to display 16-bit (or "thousands") colors. On the Macintosh, do this in your Monitors and Sound control panel. Under Windows, do this in the Display control panel.
Another possibility is that you don't have enough free RAM.
Try quitting a few applications and see if it works then.
If you have less than 6MB free at the time the animated
screen saver launches, there is a good chance you need more
memory.
- I've read all these instructions and yet I still have an unresolved problem. Can someone help?
