
Phillip Gould
Philip Gould is a documentary photographer who has made the Louisiana his home and favorite subject for over two decades. Based in Lafayette, the heart of Cajun Country, he has photographed throughout the state, the nation, and many points beyond. His work has resulted in one of the largest photographic archives on Louisiana.
Gould has also published numerous books including Louisiana's
Capitols -- The Power and the Beauty, Cajun Music and Zydeco,
Louisiana -- a Land Apart, Les Cadiens d'Asteur -- Today's
Cajuns, Rythmes du Monde Francophone, among others. His documentary
photography has appeared in numerous national magazines. His
exhibits from various projects have toured extensively. His
most recent exhibit "A Promise from the Sun" on
Louisiana native peoples is being shown at the Lafayette,
LA Natural History Museum.
This Spring LSU Press will publish Gould's latest book, The Louisiana Houses of A. Hays Town. Town, a legendary residential architect in the Bayou State, has embraced old styles and old materials as he has designed over 500 homes in the state and beyond. The book will look at some of Town's more distinctive work including his own home.
Gould was also honored recently for his documentary photography
with the 1996 Louisiana Governor's Arts Award for Professional
Artist of the Year. Born in Massachusetts and raised in California,
Gould has lived all his adult life in Louisiana. He has two
sons, Colin (b-1989) and Daniel (b-1991).
